A look back at sports week
18 July 2024Last spring, the Institut International de Lancy organised a sports week, an event designed to promote physical activity and the values of sport with our students in this Olympic year. Thanks to a varied programme combining competitions, discovery and conviviality, children in all classes enjoyed a week packed with activities. Our sports instructors had prepared unique warm-up exercises that were broadcasted every morning in the classes. Primary students were then able to test their knowledge of the Olympic Games through quizzes, while secondary students discovered new disciplines such as boxing through introductory workshops. During sport lessons, all our students competed against each other on timed courses. The winners in each class received a medal made in our STEAM lab and presented at a ceremony where the national anthem of the country of origin of each winning student was played. During the lunch break, IIL also organised sports challenges, giving everyone a chance to challenge themselves while having fun.
In the hall of building B17, an exhibition of photos tracing the history of the Olympic Games was complemented by trophies created by our art class students. In STEAM classes, some children created wood Olympic rings, symbols of world unity through sport. The school canteen also lent itself to the game by serving a Greek meal, a nod to the country of origin of the Olympic Games. Students were also able to wear the sports kit of their choice, proudly displaying the colours of their favourite team.
Finally, IIL had the immense pleasure of welcoming a prestigious surprise guest: Teemu Hartikainen, Finnish professional ice hockey player, reigning Olympic gold medallist, World Champion and Champions League winner. This elite sportsman shared his experience with our students, who were able to ask him questions. He was then available for autographs. It was an inspiring encounter they won’t forget!
The sports week was a resounding success, strengthening cohesion and team spirit while celebrating Olympic values. Our warmest thanks go to all the participants, teachers and staff for their commitment and enthusiasm.
