University Guidance

Our university and careers counselling programme offers students from year 7 through year 13 (6e-terminale) the tools they need to think actively about their future.

Students in lower secondary focus on self-development and career exploration, while students in upper secondary investigate higher education options and work on putting together a strong university application.

Focused on each individual’s strengths and interests, our devoted staff and dedicated classes offer students a holistic and inclusive approach to their reflection after graduation.

Our university and college counsellors guide students through the complex application procedures for the various university systems in Switzerland, France, England, the USA, Canada or elsewhere in the world. We provide personalised support to each student as they complete their applications to the universities of their choice. Our programme offers students additional preparation time for admissions and language tests. Predicted grades, full grade transcripts, letters of recommendation and full references are all sent according to university deadlines and individual submission requirements.

Each year, IIL graduates enter the world’s most prestigious universities, such as Oxford, Cambridge, McGill, EPFL, University of Geneva, Lausanne Hotel School (EHL), and the classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles (France).

We are proud to support each and every IIL student on their individual path. Our personalised guidance programme helps students identify courses, universities or gap year placements that are right for them and where they can thrive socially and academically. We firmly believe that each student has a bright future ahead and that with the right guidance, they can find their path.

Where our graduates are now

Career Exploration, Self-knowledge and Self-development

All students in lower and upper secondary have regular career-related workshops and activities throughout the year. Our programme helps students develop self-knowledge and curiosity, along with key competencies, from CV writing to interviewing and self-presentation skills.

Students in upper secondary work very closely with our career guidance counsellors, meeting with them individually at regular intervals throughout the year and designing personalized guidance plans.

As a complement to the guidance programme, IIL organises a career fair each year in autumn. The event features conferences and interactive workshops given by professionals and designed to inspire and build awareness.

IIL works with the Morrisby foundation to provide psychometric testing to all students aged 15-16, in year 11 (English section) or Seconde (French section). The aim is to guide students through the process of better understanding their interests, abilities and skills to help them to define or confirm their choice of higher education.

All students at IIL engage in a work experience at least once during their schooling. This internship programme allows them to discover a career, gain first-hand experience and develop key competencies for success in the workplace.
