Young Ambassador Award 2023 Four IIL students to represent Switzerland
27 June 2023At the institut international de Lancy, our heritage is rooted in humanitarian work. Every year, students of all ages initiate projects and participate in charitable actions. Confused by the large number of homeless people in Geneva, four students from the English secondary section, Ines, Noemi, Julia and Elisa, had the idea of launching a project which consisted of preparing and distributing meals to homeless people. This is how the “Cooking and succeeding together” project was born.
Despite the many challenges, particularly logistical, the project was launched and the first meals were prepared and distributed on a Saturday in May 2022. Since then, once a month on Saturday, the students, surrounded by their fellow volunteers, volunteer parents and school staff, prepare more than 100 meals and distribute them thanks to a partnership with Caravane de Solidarité, a Geneva-based charity created in 2015 that helps people in need. This magnificent project is now sustainable and is part of the school’s regular charity projects
Last May, during the Geneva National Convention of the Lions Club, the four students behind this project were awarded the 2023 Lions Young Ambassador Award, which each year rewards young people between 15 to 18 years old for their involvement in the local community and encourages them to continue their humanitarian work. They will have the chance to represent Switzerland in the European competition which will take place in Klagenfurt, Austria, in October 2023. We are particularly proud of this initiative, which echoes the values of our school and reminds us that everyone can make a difference and contribute. to building a better world. Good luck!
